Anti-Racism and Allyship in the Workplace

Overview

To increase participants understanding of race and the impact discrimination can have on people’s lives in the workplace.

Objectives

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Use appropriate language when talking about race
  • Discuss issues of race with increased confidence
  • State the meaning of the term ‘macroaggressions’, unconscious bias, structural racism, positive action and how they impact within the workplace
  • Understand an anti-racist approach
  • Demonstrate being a pro-active ally
  • Implement tools to works towards building an anti-racist workplace

  • How to talk about race and racism, using case studies and real life examples
  • Distinguish between being ‘not racist’ and anti-racist
  • Recognising racial microaggressions and the impact in the workplace
  • Intersectionality and privilege
  • What does it mean to be an ally?
  • Courageous Conversations – how to challenge appropriately
  • Identify actions to foster inclusivity in the working environment
