Overview
This strategic course is designed to ensure that senior managers or senior practitioners are effectively qualified to understand approaches to delivering restorative justice and how that strategy could be implemented within their organisation.
This qualification will also equip non case working managers to manage investigative and restorative justice teams.
The course covers what restorative justice is, how to create strategies and systems, how to implement restorative justice approaches, the setting up of referral and delivery systems as well as working in partnership to deliver restorative justice in your area or organsiation.
Learning Outcomes
The BTEC Professional Award in Restorative Approaches qualification provides the following:
- How to move from a RJ “movement” approach to professional needs based services
- To be able to demonstrate actual cost savings in cases by adopting appropriately proven best practice
- How to decide whether to buy in services or to develop existing staff skills
- How to adopt RJ approaches across the organisation without always opting for expensive conference meetings which is the delivery choice for the majority of RJ professional services
- How to ensure the health, safety and welfare of staff
- Ensuring safety for all participants
- How a strategic RJ strategy is written and aligned to real business needs
- How to transfer this knowledge for other strategic roles in a multi agency setting
- How to select and assess professional RJ facilitators
- How to develop in-house RJ training programmes
- How to become the strategic RJ resource for the organisation
- Identifying funding opportunities and procurement savings
- Training needs analysis for RJ
- Formally evaluating RJ services
This qualification will enable the candidate to:
- Understand the principles and definitions of the restorative justice framework
- Demonstrate when, where, why and how restorative justice approaches should be used
- Demonstrate the legislative framework in order to engage in restorative justice approaches
- Understand and evaluate different strategies and systems available for restorative justice techniques
- Understand the support, performance and monitoring frameworks available for restorative justice approaches
- Review and evaluate strategies, delivery and referral models and service partner support for the delivery of restorative justice approaches
- Explain and apply relevant restorative justice principles, definitions, procedures and codes
- Recognise the different types of restorative justice approaches and what they mean to victims and offenders
- Be able to understand relevant principles and definitions of restorative justice
- To understand the diverse network of restorative justice partners that provides assets, resources and powers
- To explain and apply when it is appropriate to use restorative justice
- Explain and apply relevant restorative justice support, performance and monitoring frameworks
- Recognise the different stages of strategy development
- Be able to understand delivery and referral models
- Create and maintain effective practice standards in finding service partners and agreeing outcomes
- Recognise the different types of strategies available to deliver restorative justice approaches
This qualification is designed for senior managers or senior practitioners who after completing the qualification will be able to act as advocates within their organisation or communities to implement restorative justice approaches or practice.

The course consists of 30 hours of guided learning, made up as follows:
- Pre-tutorial day assignment
- 2 Tutorial Days
- Post- tutorial day home/work based assignment
The one off enrolment fee for this qualification is £695 + VAT per student this includes:
- 2 x mandatory taught tutorial dates
- All required course materials
- Access to Red Snapper Learning’s E-Learning Portal (which includes any relevant updates to legislation, National Occupational Standards and best practice, enabling the student to maintain their learning and continuing professional development).
- All certification and qualification costs.
This course can be fully adapted to meet both your operational and specific learning needs. It will be delivered “in house” to your organisation, network or partnership.
